Heart and Vascular Institute of Florida South joins the HCA network

December 30, 2010, St. Petersburg, FL – The Tampa Bay Heart Institute at Northside Hospital announced today that it will be acquiring The Heart and Vascular Institute of Florida South (HVIF) as part of the hospital’s long-term vision of becoming the leader in cardiovascular services in the Tampa Bay area. The integration of HVIF with The Tampa Bay Heart Institute will provide the community an enhanced level of cardiovascular care and continuity of services. The agreement will be effective January 1, 2011.

Northside Hospital recognizes the importance of providing our community with quality healthcare,” said Northside Hospital President and CEO Stephen J. Daugherty. “Our partnership with the physicians and staff of The Heart and Vascular Institute of Florida South will allow us to provide a more integrated approach to the cardiovascular services we provide in the Tampa Bay area.”

“Together with The Tampa Bay Heart Institute at Northside Hospital, The Heart & Vascular Institute of Florida South aims to advance cardiovascular research, education and clinical excellence in cardiac disease prevention, cardiac diagnosis and treatment, and coronary and vascular intervention,” said Peter Wassmer, MD, cardiologist with HVIF. “We look forward to working with Northside Hospital to further expand the Electrophysiology program and provide unparalleled cardiovascular care to our community.”

The Heart and Vascular Institute of Florida South is currently one of the largest providers of Cardiovascular Services in the area with three St. Petersburg office locations, 16 Board Certified Cardiologists and almost 100 employees. HVIF has provided cardiovascular care to the community for more than 33 years. This acquisition will provide additional resources to allow HVIF to continue to expand their services throughout the community.
